The Boston Jewish Film Festival continues its year-round programming with three films and TV shows from Israel screening in February and March.


The Fifth Heaven

Wednesday, Feb. 29, 7 p.m., West Newton Cinema

 

Palestine under the British mandate. Maya, 13, is dropped off by her father at an orphanage. Only she’s not an orphan, just part of a dysfunctional family. Complicating her search for self are her fellow orphans, the head of the orphanage, who knows her parents from a previous life and a young Israeli soldier. Hebrew with English subtitles. Based on a novel by Rachel Eytan. Director Dina Zvi-Riklis will be present.

Dolphin Boy

Attacked by fellow youths in his Arab village in Israel, Morad is traumatized and goes mute in this documentary. He goes to Eilat for dolphin therapy, but will swimming with dolphins bring Morad out of his shell? In Arabic, French, Hebrew with English subtitles. Director Dani Menkin will speak after the film.
